There are as many different responses to stress
as there are people....
             .....which is why hypnotherapy helps
with such a long list of ailments.
Hypnotherapy has gained something of a reputation as a 'cure all', which is partly
due to some of the more outlandish claims on it's behalf, and partly because there
are so many conditions that at first inspection appear entirely unrelated to each
other, which in fact arise fully or partly from stress responses, or become
antagonised by them. Some conditions can be eased by hypnotherapy, others
can be cleared up altogether, and
some on the list below will probably amaze
you!

Elsewhere in the site we have devoted whole pages to some of the areas most
commonly associated with hypnotherapy. Some more of those, and some less
commonly associated areas are referenced below. Please rest assured that you
will find no offers of anatomical enlargement, above
or below the waist!

Pain Control*:- Pain control has the longest and most distinguished history of all
hypnotherapy techniques.
If you had been injured in the Battle of Waterloo,
you would have hoped that your surgeon was a good hypnotist.

Coming right up to date, hypnotherapy techniques are being brought to bear on
everything, from childbirth, to dentistry and surgery, to the relief of
chronic pain,
and/or that associated with terminal illness, to name some of the most obvious.

Hypnotherapy can help sufferers gain some normality, where before there had
been debilitation, and reduce or eliminate the need for analgesia. This
improvement in quality of life can be precious, especially when time is short.
(*Clients with pain from an undiagnosed origin will be referred back to their GP, and permission to
contact GPs may sometimes be sought)

Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS):- Hypnotherapy is not far from becoming the
approach of choice for GPs, where IBS is intractable, and has resisted the usual
medication. The work of
Professor of Medicine and Gastroenterology, Peter
Whorwell, of the University Hospital of South Manchester, has been largely
credited with this recognition. Using hypnotic visualisation techniques, alongside
sound dietary advice, Professor Whorell has been able to show remarkable
results.
The good news is that you don't have to wait for a GP referral to Manchester for
intractable IBS, as the techniques are available now, at Positive Hypnotherapy.

**a note on children,

from about the age of 6 or 7 (highly individual) children become
sufficiently capable of concentration to be hypnotised. They often make very good
(the best) subjects, and can be helped enormously with many of the same
problems experienced by adults, as well as some that are more centred on
childhood. Please note that children are always required to be chaperoned by a
parent, and we will not see under 16s unaccompanied.

If you are under 16, and wish to see somebody unaccompanied, there
are people
available. They need to have special training, to be able to assess whether you
fully understand the consequences of the treatment you want, and unfortunately we
don't currently have that.

And remember, if you are in trouble, you can always ring Childline on
0800 1111 in confidence, for free.
