The method of therapy used by Positive Hypnotherapy is called Solution
Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), and we consider weight gain to be an
expression of some degree of depression. Nothing to rush off to the Doctor
about, but somewhere down the line, an excess of anxiety has led to a
depressed response, and food has brought comfort.
It's common and
happens sporadically to almost everybody.

Now, we accept that you may well be thinking "I'm not unhappy or depressed"
and/or "I don't eat for comfort",
which is reasonable, until you examine what
is actually meant by these terms.

A person experiencing 'depression' can seem/feel just anxious, or maybe
even just tense, especially at low levels, and most of us would not recognise
these symptoms as 'depression', so the 'miserable' stereotypes aren't
necessarily what you will experience, and you would have no recollection of
necessarily having been anything more than 'fed up' or 'down in the dumps'.

As for 'comfort', in depressed people, the normal reward chemicals that
motivate people in their day to day lives are found in lower quantities than
usual, or are absent altogether, and all food, but especially fatty or sugary
foods, can stimulate the production of these, which is where the
so called
'comfort'
comes from. Really it's a satisfaction of a chemical need, and it
doesn't represent weakness or laziness, just a
factual chemical
requirement.
In most of us, the feeling/s which lead to a spell of overeating
will pass (the craving for chocolate, chips, crisps, etc. that is often felt by
people of all weights, from time to time), but
for some of us they don't
pass,
or we become too attached to the responses we can bring about when
we are overeating, and most likely a combination of both of these things is
probably true in most cases of people being overweight.

In solution focused therapy we work with you to start enabling you to
produce your own reward chemicals, so that you don't need to overeat to
produce them. They can be stimulated by successful behaviour, positive
reactions from others, improved self esteem, and moderate exercise, to
name but a few, and these are brought about in the early stages by your own
initial weight losses, and sometimes in early light exercise, as well as
positive supportive remarks by friends, and our affirmations and other work
while you are hypnotised.
The beauty of these reward chemicals is that
your brain will immediately set about looking for more of the same (in the
negative way it currently does with food), causing you to repeat your
successful behaviour, and once started you will create a
culture of success
that will just go on reproducing itself, day by day, week by week, month by
month, making your old eating habits seem like they had never existed....and
we know that old neural pathways in the brain can fall into almost complete
disuse, when new patterns of behaviour take over, and this can take place in
just weeks, while new neural pathways actually grow to take over.

Most people who are really struggling with their weight will come weekly, for
at least 6 weeks (see cost saving courses,
tariff), possibly longer, and then
as success kicks in, the sessions will quickly spread out to fortnightly, 3
weekly and monthly by the 6 to 8 month stage. On average we would expect
to see you for a year, during which time we get to know each other well, and a
solid, trusting therapeutic relationship is developed, which gives
Lets start with the bad news. Losing
weight is not an overnight job. But you
knew that didn't you? After all, putting
the weight on doesn't exactly happen
overnight either!

All health professionals will agree that
weight lost quickly is easily regained,
and we're in the business of getting it
off to stay off.

The good news is that this is a
highly successful method of
achieving sustained weight loss,

and the sessions themselves are
discreet (no public weigh ins) and
wonderfully enjoyable, as people
almost universally find hypnosis very
pleasant indeed.
you a degree of support that you simply
would not find in most other weight loss
programmes,
it's like having a personal
trainer for your mind!
At the end, if you
want the reassurance (and the enjoyment of
being hypnotised!) you may choose to
maintain a 6 monthly visit for a year or two,
though you will have all the strategies you
need  to remain healthy without hypnotherapy
by this time.

We've saved what can be
the best bit until
last
. Solution focussed hypnotherapy is a
process which works partly by stimulating
problem solving mechanisms in your
subconscious mind. Often we find people
come for weight loss, and find that the control
they exercise in losing weight leads to other

either way, it's an investment in your future
areas of their life becoming better controlled and more enjoyable too, such
as relationships with loved ones, work performance, the ability to
concentrate, professional relationships, and their general outlook on life
becomes calmer and more balanced.
This is a real bonus, and for a few
even becomes the major change, with weight loss almost becoming a
secondary factor (but it still happens!). How many diet clubs can claim that?

If you're serious about losing weight, whether it's one stone, or ten
stone, solution focused hypnotherapy will put you on track in a
progressive, supported, and above all enjoyable way, to sustainable
healthy weight loss. Come and see for yourself.
