.....and what is it that you do want to change?.....

do you want to lose weight?
are you sick of smoking?
would you like to stop feeling stressed and anxious (panic attacks?)?
do you want to improve your performance at anything?
would you like to feel more confident and assertive?
would you like to be able to just relax?
would you like to stop troublesome and repetitive behaviour?
would you like to stop feeling angry and frustrated?
would you like to stop being afraid, of flying, of death, of anything?
would you like to be able to manage your pain?
or would you like to find a therapy that is a pleasure, from start to finish?

Well, you're in the right place! Increasing number of people are turning to hypnotherapy, as the silly old ideas about hypnosis are left in the past, and
hypnotherapy starts to become recognised as the positive force for good that it really
is. It looks inevitable that NICE (National Institute for Clinical Excellence) will have to
license hypnotherapy, as researchers pile positive evidence upon positive evidence at
their door, and meanwhile many people are already voting with their feet, so you're in
good company!

So, why are some of us happy, or at least coping well, in the face of the many problems
and difficulties that modern life throws at us, whilst others are anxious, depressed,
angry, frustrated, down in the dumps, overweight, using excessive alcohol or other
drugs, smoking tobacco, cynical, controlling, violent, and so on?
The answer is
uncomfortably simple, and it is that
we choose it, one way or the other. Oh, maybe
not in one big go, but bit by bit, in 'bite size' chunks that begin to accumulate, and which
grow in influence, until they become disabling, until we look for help, until we end up
looking at a website like this.

Most of us do not
solely go down a negative path, or solely go down a positive path,
but rather it is
aspects of our lives that become problematical and negative, and when
they start to
really become problematical, they can obscure everything else, and even
halt all the other more positive areas of our lives.

The good news is that we can choose ourselves right back up there and into that
photograph (our own version of it) if we want to. We can move our focus from our
problems and worries,
whatever they are, really, whatever they are, and improve our
lot, by focusing positively on
what it is we want.

If it sounds simple then that's because it is,
and in an age of MRI scans, we are
now able to prove, beyond doubt, that
by thinking positively.... that by focusing on
success....that by imagining what we want,
we can influence our future to the point
where we could reasonably be described as 'choosing' it,... when
we choose to focus
positively on what we want, then
we create different chemical environments in our
brains, which directly influence the way we feel and behave, and we can close down
old neural pathways, and open new ones, in a matter of  weeks and months.
This
process can be started in the most humble and tiny of ways,
and can be just
allowed to develop, as the little things become bigger things, until we find that we have
changed our lives for the better....
and the real joy is that whether you experience
anger, frustration, sadness, depression, anxiety, or their manifestations, through
smoking tobacco, overeating, drinking too much alcohol, addiction to drugs, even nail
biting, or if these feelings distort your perception of your environment causing you to
experience debilitating levels of pain, or fear of every day events like flying, to name
but two,
the absolute reassurance is that they all come from very similar mental
processes, and can be treated with very similar therapeutic techniques.

Most people think in the negative format, "I hope I don't this", or "I hope he doesn't
that"
, and our unconscious mind cannot distinguish between the positive and negative
in those things that we dwell on, only the object in question. When we think "I hope I
don't fail this exam", we cause the unconscious mind to dwell on failing the exam, and
in turn, the prospect of failing the exam causes anxiety responses, including chemical
releases into the brain, which accelerate the rate at which you entertain the prospect of
failing the exam, creating a vicious circle which, without intervention, becomes a self
fulfilling prophesy.....you fail the exam, or do less well than you should have. By the time
you've taken the exam, you've practised your failure very hard, so why wouldn't you?!

When we think positively,
when we actually imagine success, when we say "I hope I
pass this exam", and positively visualise ourselves having actually passed, and
enjoying all the rewards of passing, we set about an entirely different process, also
involving chemical releases into the brain, but this time positive 'reward' chemicals,
which the brain loves, and without your knowing sets you about finding more, by
repeating your behaviour or thought patterns.

These reward chemicals are amongst our most fundamental drivers, and when the
brain is functioning effectively they are in plentiful supply. When it isn't, we can
make it
function effectively, and we start with positive imagination of success, both consciously
and in hypnosis, and we can start to
show your unconscious mind what it is you
want
, rather than what you don't want. Often we'll discover new things that you want on
the way, things that may not have been obvious at the outset, and that can be very nice.
The
hypnosis itself is almost universally positively enjoyed, and provides a very
agreeable vehicle to good mental health.....or just getting you to step on an aeroplane,
or to perform to the best of your ability!

Despite persistent rumours to the contrary, we are still searching for the first person to
be 'stuck' in a hypnotic trance, and despite appearances, particularly those dreary
ones on stages and TV, people really cannot be made to do anything that is outside of
their value range whilst hypnotised.
Hypnosis is a very agreeable voluntary state,
made possible by your co-operation and trust
, and achieved by you, not the
hypnotist.

The method of therapy employed at Positive Hypnotherapy is called
Solution
Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT)
, and is exactly as it sounds, focused on a positive,
optimistic future, and as brief as humanly possible, which is good for your pocket! We
do not use analytical methods of therapy, but offer no opinion on them, mentioning this
only inasmuch as we want potential clients to understand that we
know, often their
problems will have unhappy or even distressing associations, and we would like
potential clients to be clear that these will not be dwelled upon in any way, beyond
establishing the facts. No facing up, no uncovering repressed emotions. Clients
actually
seeking analysis should look elsewhere.

Whatever your problem, be it little or large, common or rare (and few really are),you'll
find that
things are never as bad as they can seem, and you'll find there's a very
agreeable and happy way of working your way through them at Positive
Hypnotherapy.
